Shelley Riley

I was born, raised and have lived in British Columbia most of my life, with the exception of 8 years when I relocated to Owen Sound, Ontario from late 2003 to 2011. I have worked in the family law area for 25+ years.

I was hired as Scottie's Legal Assistant in 1989 when he was called to the Bar. After approximately 5 years I wanted to further my legal knowledge so in 1994 (with Scottie's and our law firm's strong support) I enrolled in what is now called the Paralegal Program at Capilano College (now Capilano University). While completing my studies I still worked full-time with Scottie. I found the Program challenging but completed my studies and graduated in May 1998.

I continued to work with Scottie until I relocated to Ontario in late 2003. In Owen Sound I worked for a lawyer who had a varied practice including family law, personal injury law and some criminal law. When I returned to BC in 2011 I was fortunate enough to be hired by Scottie to again work with him as his Paralegal. Scottie and I have now worked together for over 17 years... initially when he practiced as a Family Law litigator, then as a Collaborative Family Lawyer, then as a Parenting Coordinator and more recently as a Family Law Arbitrator.

Scottie practices almost exclusively in the area of family law which is the practice area that I also prefer. I enjoy being able to work closely with our clients on a daily basis and assist them with their various matters. In addition, I am able to use my skills as a Paralegal to assist Scottie in all his work as a Family Dispute Resolution Professional.
